#What the best car dealer SEO companies do differently
Most dealer SEO looks the same from the outside. A monthly report arrives. It has charts. Traffic is up, or rankings are up, or both. The store owner cannot tell if any of it made money.
The best ones start from the other end. They ask what the store needs: more service appointments, more used-car leads, more calls from the next town over. Then they work backward to the pages, the listings and the technical fixes that could move that number.
They also know the terrain. A dealer website is not a normal website. It has thousands of inventory pages, a platform the store may not control, and a manufacturer with rules about what a store can say. An agency that has never worked inside those limits will spend your first three months learning them.

A report with charts does not show it. Calls, booked service and branded search do.
#Eight checks for any dealership SEO company
Use the same list on every company you talk to, including us. Score each one honestly. For each question, a good answer and a worrying one are shown.
The first check matters most. Ask for an audit of your site before you see a price. A company that quotes without looking at your pages is selling a package. A company that looks first is selling a fix.
The second matters almost as much. Ask who owns your accounts. Your Google Business Profile, Search Console, analytics and domain should all be in your name. If the vendor set them up in their own name, you cannot leave without losing your history.

Eight checks for a car dealer SEO company
Score each company one point per check. Six or more earns a serious conversation.
| Check | A good answer | A warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Audit before quote | They review your site and show findings first | A price arrives before anyone has opened your site |
| Dealer experience | They name the platforms and OEM rules they work within | They describe dealers like any local business |
| What they report | Calls, form leads, appointments, booked service | Rankings, impressions and traffic only |
| Account ownership | Your Google Business Profile and analytics stay in your name | The vendor holds the logins |
| Proof | A dealer site they improved, with before and after numbers | Logos and testimonials with no numbers |
| Plan in plain words | They say what they will change and why | Jargon and a list of tasks with no reason |
| Contract | Month to month, or a short term with an exit | Twelve or more months with a heavy penalty |
| Promises | They say results vary and explain what they can control | A guaranteed ranking, page one or a date |
Editorial evaluation framework. It is a checklist for judging vendors rather than a measured ranking of any company.
#Red flags that appear in almost every bad pitch
A guaranteed ranking is the loudest one. Nobody outside Google controls rankings, and Google does not sell placement. A company that promises page one is either guessing or planning to pick a search nobody uses.
Watch for the ranking screenshot for a search no customer types. It looks impressive. It brings no calls. Ask which searches the ranking is for, then ask how many people search them in your market.
Watch for link packages sold by the piece. Buying links in bulk is against Google's rules and can put your site at risk. Real links come from real local sources: the chamber of commerce, a local sponsorship, a news story about your store.
Last, watch for a report that grows every month while your phone stays quiet. That gap is the whole problem. Ask to see the report next to your own call log.
#Questions to ask on the first call
Ask what they would fix first on your site and why. A good answer names a page or a problem they already looked at. A weak answer is a list of services.
Ask what they will not do. A company that says yes to everything has no method. A good one will tell you which of your ideas are a waste of money.
Ask how they handle the manufacturer. Some content and claims need approval. Someone on their side should know what needs approval.
Ask how you leave. The answer tells you how much they trust their own work.
